The Client

Employing over 2500 staff across the UK, Nando’s operate 255 restaurants serving quality fast-food in a high-specification environment.

The Challenge

Westfield is the largest urban shopping centre in Europe and built to the highest standards of Health and Safety. With the heightened security imposed during the run up to the 2012 Olympics, strict deadlines were set beyond which no scaffolding or equipment would be allowed on site. In addition every contractor had to go through a lengthy and rigorous daily check-in and check-out process, increasing time pressure even further.

The Solution

Effective project management, good organisation and an excellent working relationship with the main contractor ensure smooth progress throughout. Abel installed intruder alarm, fire detection and CCTV systems, all to a high quality specification – particularly the CCTV, making sure Nando’s commitment to staff protection was full supported.

What’s more fire detection included an aspirating system in the closed ceiling void, meaning the continuous wooden ceiling design feature could be retained without sacrificing safety.

The Result

All the key deadlines were met and work completed to Nando’s satisfaction in this prestigious location. Abel continues to work with Nando’s on up to 20 sites a year, building on a successful 5-year relationship.
