Client Expectation
The main expectation/criteria of the client, was to have the ability to stream audio and video to each room within the house. They wanted to be able to play music from their mobile phone to multiple rooms and also required gaming on the cinema screen.
The Install
Located under the main stairway is the rack room which houses the main controls of the system. This includes the controls for all the house lighting contained within 3 lighting panels 2×5 slot panels and 1×2 slot panels. These control all the house lighting and extractor fans in the en-suite bathrooms etc. including occupancy sensors in the bathrooms to enable night lights when entering the rooms at night without the need to find the light switch.
Inside the rack itself, we have 2 Sky HD plus boxes, 2 Roku Media players with PLEX app for streaming of films stored on a network hard drive and NETFLIX for streaming. We also have a 4K UHD Blue ray player, Apple TV, and connection into his CCTV system. All these are distributed around the home to 10 TV’s and a Cinema Room via an HDMI matrix to allow multiple viewing options.
Installed is multi-room audio via a 16×16 audio matrix and 2×8 zone amplifiers to give music to each room and patio areas whether this be saved on hard drive, internet radio or streamed from a mobile device via Airplay / Spotify with multiple connections to allow more than one stream to different rooms.
We also have integrated into the clients heating system and blind controls to bring environment control together each room has separate heating control and blind control.
Also integrated we have the intruder alarm and CCTV system giving control from wall touchscreens to the intruder alarm and visual pictures from the cameras.
Each room has multiple lighting circuits controlled from the wall keypads to allow dimming of each light circuit, simple on / off control or lighting scenes to set moods. Outside lighting is controlled from dusk till the early hours via the Control4 system and the main hall lights will illuminate upon entry through the front door, if the intruder alarm is set and on exit when unset the front door external lights will illuminate.
The Cinema room has a large permeable screen with wall speakers behind as part of the 7.2 surround sound system. It has a 4K UHD projector, a separate 4K UHD Blue ray player. The cinema room can select any source from the main rack whether it’s Netflix or Sky it even has an input for the Playstation4.
The rack had to be as neat as possible so all cables were neatly installed and blanking panels fitted covering the media players and shelf mounted equipment, all cables are labelled and identifiable with documentation.
The control of the system is obtained by hand held Control4 SR260’s in each room for easy control of each TV and source also custom controls for quick lighting scenes. The Main hall and Master bedroom have in wall touchscreens to give access to CCTV and Intruder alarm functions as well as heating control and blind control.
The client has portable touchscreens also to give additional control from room to room with custom buttons on each touchscreen to turn off all media and lighting with a single button press.
